Pavla Petrová

Director, Arts and Theatre Institute

Pavla Petrová, Ph.D.

Pavla Petrová, Ph.D., is Director of the Arts and Theatre Institute in Prague and General Director of the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space. In 2020, she was appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Arts Management of the Prague University of Economics and Business.

She has been a member of different expert and research teams and working groups on cultural policy. She is the author of the Czech profile in the Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe, an online database. She is the author of several articles and book chapters on a broad range of topics related to culture and cultural policies.

Petrová is a board member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, a member of the Czech Commission for UNESCO and Chairwoman of the Czech Sector Skills Council.

Arts and Theatre Institute

Arts and Theatre Institute (ATI) is a state-funded organisation established by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Since 1959, its mission has been to provide the Czech and international public with comprehensive services in the field of theatre and other areas of the arts sector.

The Institute operates as an open centre of information, scholarship, consultation, education and publishing. Moreover, it organises and participates in international projects, engages in research, documentation work, collecting activities and organising exhibitions.

ATI encourages a strategic approach to culture and supports and connects culture professionals and artists across different disciplines on the national and international scene. It also financially supports the export and mobility of actors in the cultural and creative sector.

Dr. Joanna C. Lee (Moderator)

Dr. Joanna C. Lee has served as consultant and translator for such institutions as the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall and the New York Asian Film Festival. Since 2004, she is the regular host and interpreter at the Hong Kong International Film Festival and the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum. She was a publicity consultant for the “Big Five” American orchestras on their Asian tours as well as consulting producer for San Francisco Opera’s Dream of the Red Chamber. She is currently serving as outreach consultant for multiple Broadway and Off-Broadway productions in New York. She has served as an on-stage interpreter for former US President Jimmy Carter, Chinese director Jia Zhangke and artist Xu Bing, as well as provided opera surtitles for the China National Centre for the Performing Arts and the Beijing Music Festival. She is the English surtitle author for the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre since 2007.
