Guidelines

The Hong Kong Chapter serves as an exceptional collaboration platform for Hong Kong’s professional small-to-medium sized arts groups and individual artists from the performing arts sector to present their bold artistic visions through dynamic 20-minute sessions, fostering dialogue and collaboration with international presenters and delegates at HKPAX 2026. These sessions may include presentations, demonstrations, or tour-ready excerpt performances of their work(s).
A cohort of ten teams or individual artists will be selected to represent the rich diversity of Hong Kong’s performing arts. To strengthen these connections, facilitation will be provided to encourage engagement between international delegates and local groups, as well as to support post-event collaboration opportunities, ensuring the relationships continue to grow beyond the HKPAX.
Each awarded team or artist will receive:
- an allowance of HKD 30,000;
- basic technical and venue support at The Theatre of the East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC);
- two HKPAX passes and an exhibition spot at HKPAX;
- the opportunity to be subsidised to attend international arts market(s), such as CINARS in Canada, following HKPAX 2026;

We aim to:
- Showcase Hong Kong’s Artistic Diversity and Vision – Highlight Hong Kong’s creative voices and artistic practices through presentations and showcases.
- Support Artists in Global Engagement – Support Hong Kong’s small-to-medium sized performing arts groups and individual artists in articulating their artistic visions, building and fostering relationships with international counterparts.
- Build a Platform for International Artistic Exchange – Establish a platform that facilitates meaningful encounters and collaborations between Hong Kong artists and international practitioners.
- Strengthen Hong Kong’s Cultural Presence – Contribute to the long-term positioning of Hong Kong as a vibrant and forward-looking cultural hub that is characterised by the fusion of Chinese traditions and Western cultures.
Session Goal:

We aim to select 10 teams or individual artists whose presentations collectively reflect the rich and diverse tapestry of Hong Kong’s performing arts talent, providing international delegates with a meaningful experience that deepens their understanding of the artists’ creative processes and artistic output.
Session Format:

There will be two Hong Kong Chapter sessions. Each session will last approximately two hours and feature five arts groups or artists.

Each arts group or artist will have a 20-minute slot. Transitions between groups should be kept minimal and carried out smoothly.

Format may include a presentation, demonstration, or an excerpt performance of a tour-ready work. Applicants are advised to focus on a single work, or to introduce multiple works that can best demonstrate their artistic vision and practice to international delegates.

The presented work may be previously premiered, tour-ready or a well-prepared work-in-progress suitable for performance, with the potential for immediate development or follow-up with presenters and collaborators after the Hong Kong Chapter. Technical setup and changeover arrangements between groups will be discussed after the selection process to ensure smooth transitions within the two-hour session.
Each awarded team or artist will receive:
- An allowance of HKD 30,000, regardless of the format of the proposed activity.
- Basic technical and venue support for the proposed activity. The venue for the showcase will be at The Theatre, East Kowloon Cultural Centre. Please review the technical specifications here to understand the venue’s capabilities before submitting your application. The availability and allocation of equipment will be confirmed through discussions with HKPAX, and there is no guarantee that all listed equipment will be available for use.
- Two HKPAX Full Passes, granting access to all HKPAX 2026 events from 9 to 13 October 2026.
- A complimentary Spot in the exhibition area to showcase and promote your work during HKPAX 2026.
- An opportunity to be subsidised to attend international arts markets following HKPAX, such as CINARS in Canada in November 2026, with more details to be announced soon.
- A Hong Kong professional arts organisation or individual artist who has presented or been involved in at least two ticketed productions within the past 5 years (2020 – 2025).
- The applicant/ key personnel of the applying organisation must be a holder of HKID card.
Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Artistic / professional merit, representativeness, organisational capability, and/or past international experience of the applicant.
- The Proposal’s contribution to the promotion of Hong Kong's cultural and artistic scene.
- The Proposal’s alignment with the mission and vision of Hong Kong Chapter and HKPAX.
- The Proposal’s feasibility and reasonableness of the content, scale, and work schedule.
Applications will be reviewed by HKPAX team and assessed by the Local Advisory Panel. Recommendations for endorsement will be made to the Hong Kong Arts Development Fund Advisory Committee and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, whose decisions shall be final.
To give you an overview before submission, below are the main sections of the application form.
Section 1: About the Applicant
- Applicants are asked to provide personal information including full name, key personnel, years of establishment, bio, performance history of two ticketed productions, international experience (if any), expected outcomes for Hong Kong Chapter, and general contact details of the primary contact person.
Section 2: Proposed Activity Overview
- General information about the proposed activity. At least one work should be focused in the proposed activity. This includes title, creative concept, core art form, genre and style, target audience and market positioning, keywords of description, list of key personnel of the work(s), summary of the proposed activity, list of onstage personnel, activity rundown with detailed content, and technical specifications and requirements.
Section 3: Supporting Materials

A 3-minute highlight video showcasing the main idea of the work(s) to be featured in the proposed activity;

Promotional materials (if any) for the work(s) to be featured in the proposed activity, such as photos, key visuals, trailers, media reviews, press kits, etc.

A full-length performance recording to demonstrate the excerpt to be featured in the proposed activity (if any) and provide a clear representation of the work’s concept, staging, and artistic quality.
Failure to provide the above information and materials will be considered an incomplete application and will not be processed.
- Each applicant may submit only ONE application for Hong Kong Chapter. All applications must be submitted online.
- The application form can be completed either in English or Chinese. English is strongly recommended given the international mix of audience of Hong Kong Chapter.
- Selected teams or artists are required to submit ready-to-publish promotional materials within 1 week of the result announcement. Materials include, but are not limited to, high-resolution photos (both horizontal and vertical), key visuals, trailers, media reviews, press kits, etc., to facilitate timely publicity following the selection process.
- Successful applicants should use English for their presentation. Performances may be conducted in their original language (if not in English) with English subtitles, as no simultaneous interpretation service will be provided.
- Successful applicants will be required to submit their presentation scripts in advance.
- The applicant may be required to provide supplementary documents and information at various stages of the selection process. Failure to provide such information in a timely manner will be considered an incomplete application and result in the cessation of further processing.

The schedule of each activity will be assigned by HKPAX based on the practical considerations of technical arrangements. Each successful applicant will be allocated a 20-minute session on any day within the event period (9-13 October 2026). |

A: Hong Kong Chapter invites Hong Kong professional small-to-medium sized arts groups and individual artists to present bold artistic visions through dynamic 20-minute sessions. Please note that the featured work may be tour-ready, previously premiered, or a well-prepared work-in-progress suitable for performance, with the potential for immediate development or follow-up with buyers and collaborators after the Hong Kong Chapter. Applicants must ensure that the proposed activity aligns with venue specifications and utilises the technical equipment provided. |
| 05 | Q: Regarding the ticketed productions presented between 2020 and 2025, does online streaming count? A: Yes. If the production included a live performance and required the purchase of a ticket, an online streaming version with a ticket fee would be considered a ticketed production. |
| 06 | Q: Is previous experience in overseas promotion required? A: While possessing previous international experience is advantageous, it is not a mandatory requirement for the application. Applicants are encouraged to provide detailed information in the ‘Proposed activity rundown and content’ on how they plan to promote their group or themselves to international counterparts. This will help us assess their capacity for international self-promotion, even if their prior global experience is limited. |
| 07 | Q: Can I bring my own technical equipment to the venue for my activity? A: HKPAX will provide basic equipment as listed in the technical specifications here. Please note that the availability and allocation of equipment will be confirmed through discussions with HKPAX, and there is no guarantee that all listed equipment will be available for use. If applicants would like to use additional equipment, they may do so at their own cost and only after discussion and agreement with the HKPAX team, to ensure that any additional technical requirements are compatible with the selected proposals. |
| 08 | Q: If I have been selected for HKPAX 2026 Pitching Works or International Showcases, can I also apply for Hong Kong Chapter? A: Yes, you can still apply for Hong Kong Chapter. The purpose of the Hong Kong Chapter is to support Hong Kong artists and arts groups in expanding their international presence through opportunities such as touring and global collaborations. Selection for the Hong Kong Chapter focuses on applicants who can effectively represent Hong Kong and demonstrate strong potential in the international market. Recommendations are made by the HKPAX Local Advisory Panel and endorsed by Hong Kong Arts Development Fund Advisory Committee and the Hong Kong Arts Dvelopement Council. |
